These diffs warrant further discussion. Piotr should be posting them to tech@ as bugs@ gets less views. Examples of other systems that that do similar things in similar areas (such as checking ftruncate return values if S_ISREG) are also important because some of these changes could have unintended consequences in widely used utilities.
