Adding to the other comments, the way that FTP_CMD is replaced is
brittle: it must always include `-N` as the last option: `-N` takes a
parameter.

I share the spite for torsocks mechanism.

As sthen pointed out, HTTPTunnelPort and http_proxy should work. An
example setup for that could suit well in the FAQ.
