Quick ping.

This[1] got an ok from jan@ on 5 May[2], but was not committed.  I
assumed at the time it was just a matter of waiting for 7.9 to be
released and the dust to settle ... but perhaps not.

Are any further improvements needed for this patch to be acceptable?
