syslogd: ISO8601 timestamp format in UTC by default
The format in network syslog packets can be smashed into Z format. When syslog sends a network packet, it can smash it into some other format. I suspect you overestimate the number of people who care about accuracy from such a horse'n'buggy protocol. On OpenBSD, process to syslogd information is tossed and the receive time is created. That means userland processes don't need to create strings from tz information. This was one of the foundational decisions that led to pledge. And I think the principle applies to many other things. If you keep insisting on living in 1980, the web enabled environments which need more will eventually replace everything you believe in anyways, so why not adapt the 1980 stuff to modern requirements instead of believing that only web-enabled systems are allowed to adapt? That's how I see it. Adapt or die running 1980-2000 operaging systems in your basement.
