From: Mikhail Pchelin Subject: rtw88 porting effort update To: tech@openbsd.org Date: Sun, 6 Sep 2026 20:00:51 +0300 [I'm not subscribed, please keep cc'ed] About 1.5 years ago I wrote[1] to tech@ an email about WIP for rtw88 port effort (TP-Link T3U nano 802.11ac chip), back then the driver wasn't functioning, it was able to send probes, but there was a bug in the RX path. Motivation for the driver is described in the previous email (comfortable sysupgrades for machines that can't run iwx, for example, because of BIOS blacklisting). I decided to come back to this, and the current version can ping google.com over WPA2 at 1 Mbit/s, if you hold it at the right angle to the sun and get really close to the AP. With such a pace, we can get somewhere in 3-4 years.
